About the Journal

Focus and Scope

The Brazilian Journal of Biosystems Engineering (BIOENG) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal that publishes original research, technical notes, and invited review articles covering theoretical, experimental, and computational advances in agricultural and environmental systems. The journal emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches that support sustainable development in biosystems engineering, especially those aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Relevant areas include, but are not limited to:

  • Automation and instrumentation in agricultural systems

  • Environmental management and rural infrastructure

  • Renewable energy and energy efficiency in agriculture

  • Post-harvest technologies

  • Soil and water engineering

  • Precision agriculture

  • Climate-resilient agricultural systems

Types of Articles

BIOENG publishes the following categories of manuscripts:

  • Original Scientific Articles: Research-based contributions within the scope of biosystems engineering.

  • Review Articles: Invited by the Editor from experts in the field. Reviews must present a critical and contextualized evaluation of the current state of knowledge.

  • Technical Notes: Brief reports on new methodologies, innovative techniques, or preliminary findings. Limited to six pages, including tables, figures, and references.

Publication Frequency

Articles are published on a continuous publication model, allowing for faster dissemination of accepted manuscripts within the current volume.

Open Access Policy

BIOENG offers immediate and unrestricted open access to all its content. We believe that freely available scientific knowledge promotes global equity and accelerates innovation. The journal does not charge fees for submission, review, processing, or publication.

Journal History

Founded in 2007 by Prof. Dr. Irenilza de Alencar Nääs at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP), BIOENG has grown to become the only journal in Latin America dedicated to biosystems engineering. After transitions through the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering (FEAGRI) of UNICAMP, the journal has been hosted since 2014 at the School of Sciences and Engineering (FCE), São Paulo State University (UNESP), Tupã campus.

BIOENG is committed to maintaining scientific rigor, editorial transparency, and relevance in the evolving field of biosystems engineering.
